NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY - Kay Troan Bashford
St. John Neuromuscular Therapy identifies and treats the cause of pain, which distinguishes it from other therapies that only address the expression of pain.

For example, you may be experiencing shoulder, arm, and hand pain, but the source could be trigger points in tight neck muscles. By addressing the neck muscles (the source), the pain in the shoulder, arm, and hand (the expression), is relieved. By treating pain at its source, NMT interrupts the pain cycle, promoting long-term wellness.

Neuromuscular Therapy has been successful in treating a wide range of conditions, including sciatica, whiplash, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, back and joint pain, migraine headaches, and chronic pain from injury.

CHIROPRACTIC - Dr. David Mancini
Chiropractic medicine is the study of the human spine and nervous system and how the body communicates with every muscle, organ and nerve to function at optimal capacity.

The body's optimal capacity can only be achieved through good health and a free flowing nervous system. Unfortunately, many outside stresses can cause poor health and interfere with the nervous system. Three of the main stresses, which chiropractors refer to as the "3 Ts," are:

  • Thoughts-everyday mental stresses and worries in life, which can take their toll on the body
  • Traumas-incidences such as car accidents, work injuries, sports injuries, falls or fractures
  • Toxins-substances like alcohol, cigarettes and processed foods
The 3 Ts are detrimental forces that cause the body to improperly communicate within itself, leading to spinal misalignments ("subluxations") that result in common aches and pains, chronic issues and ultimately disease.

Chiropractors are trained and educated on how to prevent the negative effects of the 3 Ts. The goal of chiropractic medicine is to properly restore structure and function, making sure the body is completely clear of interference. Procedures that may be used to accomplish this goal include: spinal adjustments, mechanical traction, cold laser therapy, hot pack therapy, trigger point therapy, and therapeutic exercise.

ELECTRO DERMAL SCREENING (EDS) - Julia McLean
Electro Dermal Screening, or EDS, is a comprehensive, non-invasive method of evaluating a person's energetic health and balance of the body's numerous systems. The process involves measuring (by computer) electrical conductivity at meridian points on the skin of the hands and feet. Measurements are recorded to help provide a profile of a patient's present condition.

The actual test points correspond to acupuncture points and meridians. As a person moves toward or away from health, stressed or weakened meridians can be detected. When stress values are above or below equilibrium, the EDS computer database allows consideration of a wide variety of possibilities through vitamins, minerals, herbs, or homeopathics, to help regain a healthy balance and allow the body to heal itself naturally.

The buzzword today is "alternative" medicine or "alternative" therapies as many people are looking for natural ways to stay healthy without drugs. At BENESSERE, we combine EDS technology with neuromuscular therapies and nutritional counseling to achieve and maintain optimal health.

ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture, at the most basic level is the insertion of hair-thin needles into the skin at specific points in order to influence balance between all body systems, thereby relieving pain and dysfunction. As a health science, the origin of this ancient healing modality lies in China, and dates back over 2,000 years ago. Acupuncture, at its very core, seeks to restore and support natural balance of body, mind and soul. When proper balance exists within the human organism a healthy expression of life force or "qi" (pronounced "chee") results. The Acupuncturist uses diagnostic techniques perfected for millennia to read the state of qi as it travels throughout the body along numerous pathways called "meridians" or channels. When the flow of qi is insufficient, unbalanced or interrupted, illness may occur. The acupuncturist works to assist the body to correct the qi flow and restore balance.

PILATES - Theresa Borgren
The goal of Pilates (pronounced pi-lah-teez) is optimal musculoskeletal performance-strength, flexibility, and endurance-without risking injury or building bulk. Its focus is on core stabilization, including shoulder and pelvic girdle stabilization, neutral alignment and patterned breathing. By developing proper technique, you can move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion-invaluable for injury recovery, sports performance, good posture and overall better health.

Just some of the benefits of Pilates are:

  • Improves flexibility and strength, balance and coordination, as well as achieving a strong mind-body connection.
  • Enhances athletic performance while being effective enough for post-rehabilitation.
  • Strengthens the core (abdominal and back muscles collectively referred to as the body's "core") by working al aspects of the torso, including belly, back and sides.
PERSONAL TRAINING - Meghan Atkinson
Personal training is a one-on-one process, individually designed to achieve the fitness or rehabilitative goals of the client. In the initial session, the personal trainer and client will discuss exercise history, goals, and any previous injuries. Following a functional assessment to determine any strengths and weaknesses, the trainer will develop a training program that will not only stretch areas of limited flexibility and strengthen areas of weakness, but will help the client to function and train at their highest level. Subsequent sessions implement that program and track the client's results.

MOVEMENT TRAINING - Babette Lightner
Wholeness in Motion is a movement training class that provides an experientially delicious foundation for allowing all the movements of your life to support fitness. Walking, bending, reaching, lifting, folding, expanding, getting to the floor and rising again are just some of the fundamental movements of life. Many of us unconsciously do these everyday movements in ways that strain, tense and stiffen us over time. Wholeness in Motion guides you to move like the whole, balanced, flexible, buoyant, powerful being that you are.

HOT STONE MASSAGE
Soothing and grounding, let the heat and light pressure of hot stones melt your muscles away. Relax as heated stones glide along tight, sore muscles and feel your body surrender to the pleasure of a Hot Stone Massage. Light massage combined with soft acupressure allows the stones to take you to a new level of relaxation. The final stage of this massage is delightfully blissful as you rest, feeling the weight of the stones and allowing your body to relax even further. A must for those who want to "get away," but don't have the time to take a vacation.

CERAGEM TABLE
The Ceragem produces heat from its nephrite jade rollers, which are built inside a massage table. The rollers follow the natural curvature of the spine to relax the muscles and relieve pressure on the 31 pairs of nerve roots connecting from the spinal cord, relieving stress and helping unblock meridians to increase energy. The head of the rollers relaxes the muscles and provides an acupressure effect. The built-in massage effect relieves stress, tension, and helps unblock meridians to increase energy. Together, they produce a relaxing, healing experience, especially when used regularly.
